Magyar Writer Krasznahorkai László Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature
Krasznahorkai was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literary Arts.
This Hungarian writer was recognised "due to his gripping and forward-thinking oeuvre that, during apocalyptic dread, confirms the power of creative expression."
The author has authored five novels and won countless additional writing awards, including the 2015 International Booker Award, and the 2013's best rendered work prize in Narrative for his first book "Satantango", a postmodern creation regarding the conclusion of the planet.
He is the second Magyar novelist to obtain the honor after the former Imre Kertesz, who won in 2002.
Brought into the world in 1954, László Krasznahorkai obtained fame in 1985 when he released Satantango, which he adapted for the cinema in the mid-1990s.
The monochrome film, by Hungarian film-maker Bela Tarr, is renowned for its seven-hour duration.
The author's other novels include:
- Melancholy of Resistance (1989)
- "War and War" (the late 90s)
- Seiobo There Below (the 2000s)
The award body portrayed the writer as "a great epic writer in the European tradition that spans through Franz Kafka to Bernhard Thomas, and is characterised by absurdist themes and distorted overindulgence."
Krasznahorkai's recent work Herscht 07769 has been called as a great contemporary German book, owing to its accuracy in illustrating the land's communal turmoil prior to the pandemic.
It's a representation of a contemporary hamlet in Thüringen, Deutschland, plagued by social lawlessness, murder and arson.
"Gentle giant Herscht Florian is an parentless child, taken in by a neo-Nazi who has trained him as a street art remover.
"The Boss, a Johann Sebastian Bach devotee, is furious that someone is applying wolf insignias across the memorials to the famed composer in their Eastern German city."
One assessment described it as "accordingly dark from start to conclusion."
The writer's newest ironic work, Zsömle Odavan, returns to Hungary.
The protagonist is elderly Uncle Kada, who has a secret entitlement to the throne but has gone to great lengths to disappear from the world.
