Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
